The workshop will be led by Martin Lauer, graduate of the Darmasiswa program, who studied Karawitan (Performing arts) at the Indonesia Institute of Arts ISI in Denpasar, Bali in 2017-2018 and performed with the gamelan ensemble Narwastu, which focuses on the interpretation of the traditional repertoire of Balinese gamelan, but also on presenting works of contemporary composers for gamelan. He is currently the member of Javanese gamelan ensemble Gamelan Wirama Galih and he also tries to incorporate gamelan instruments in the nu-jazz/ambient band Syndicate in his effort to expand its expression and enrich the pieces of its repertoire with lush rhythms and unusual melodies.
